With a little help from the Avenue Q composers, “My Musical” manages to cram a whole bunch of silly singing and dancing into a half hour. Songs like “Everything Comes Down to Poo”, the Gilbert and Sullivan inspired “Rant Song”, and the love ballad “Guy Love” will be loaded onto thousands of iPods this weekend. However, the aspect that impressed me the most was that they managed a standard, melancholy wrap-up.

As a side note, Creator Bill Lawrence told TV Guide he tries to use Buffy the Vampire Slayer as a guide for Scrubs. Is that what Dr. Acula is all about? Buffy’s musical “Once More With Feeling” was the seventh episode of its sixth season. “My Musical” is the sixth episode of the sixth season. Apparently when preparing for a sixth season, you’re supposed to hire an orchestra. Too bad the folks over at Gilmore Girls didn’t know that last year.

Ugly Betty – “In or Out”
Having just won two Golden Globe Awards, this episode lives up to the hype. While Betty and Daniel bonded on the Brooklyn Bridge (with too many meaningful glances — please don’t ever go there!), the supporting characters were all stepping up their games. Hilda questioned her choice of becoming a mother (while Justin listened from the other room), Christina turned to the dark side for the chance of becoming a fashion designer, and Amanda officially shifted her alliance from Daniel to Wilhelmina. Best of all, it had a surprise ending that rivals Melrose Place in its heyday.

The L Word – “Livin’ La Vida Loca”
It seems Max has been taking lessons in smooth from Shane, and he’s got his boss’s daughter smitten. Having no experience with sex changes, I would like a detailed picture, so I can tell how fired he’s going to be when they inevitably get physical. Alice is having sex with strangers, and Bette is looking to have sex with her TA. Shane seems to be taking a break. Perhaps she could use the free time to teach her little brother, Shay, a think or two about picking up women.

The O.C. – “The Dream Lover”
Do the folks in Hollywood spend a lot of time in sweat lodges? Their characters certainly do. While Seth was eating wild berries with Che and discovering his inner otter, Ryan was writing poetry. It’s good to see them trying new hobbies. Things were looking up when Henri Michel shipped himself back to France, but then Taylor told Ryan she needed to try life on her own (a la, St. Elmo’s Fire?) The writers seem to think they need to keep breaking their characters up, then getting them back together. Rinse and repeat.

Men in Trees – “History Lesson”
After spending so much time talking about how devastated Jack was when Lynn left him, I’m glad he chose her over Marin. Still, we know it’s not going to last. I have a strong feeling she’s lying about the father of the baby, and Buzz is going to fly him into Elmo any day now. I have a question: does Marin have a car, or is Jack going to chauffeur her back and forth between town and her new lakeside cottage?

What They Said

Marc: By the way, when you move into Daniel’s office, I am not sitting in Betty’s old chair. This bum don’t slum.
Wilhemina: That’s not what I heard.”

What They Played

The soundtrack pick of the week is again and of course from Scrubs: “Guy Love”. I’m sure it won’t be long before they release the entire soundtrack of “My Musical” on iTunes.
