02-23-hitch.jpgHave you ever referred to yourself as a metrosexual? Do you spend as much time perfecting your hair as your girlfriend does? Then Hitch just may be the movie for you. It’s a Bridget Jones’s Diary or My Best Friend’s Wedding for men, in which the guys are insecure and the women are gorgeous and aloof. Yet like that eye cream that comes packaged in masculine colors like navy blue and silver, your girlfriend will enjoy Hitch as much as you.

Directed by Andy Tenant (Sweet Home Alabama), this romantic comedy is about a “relationship doctor” Hitch (Will Smith), who helps ordinary men win the women of their dreams. However, when he falls for a gossip columnist (the Julia Roberts-esque Eva Mendes), he discovers his game doesn’t work so well when he’s playing it. Smith is the centerpiece of the movie, and though he’s at the height of his charm here, you couldn’t call this role new for him. Imagine the Fresh Prince with the Muhammad Ali body. (Not that I’m complaining.)

There are some genuine laugh-out-loud moments, primarily between Hitch and his client, Albert, played by the King of Queens himself, Kevin James. The scene in which he coaches Albert on the perfect goodnight kiss is still hilarious after seeing it over and over in the trailer. However, this movie is more about sweet and sensitive than funny. The “aw” factor is high as these good guys work their tails off to find relationships and not just a little tail.

Spend this Friday night in with a mud mask and Hitch, and remember, you’re not girly, you’re an evolved male.

Hitch is on Encore Love at 9 p.m.
