What I Watched - ‘The L Word’ Goes on Leave

The L Word
The conclusion of the fourth season of The L Word left us with several questions.
Will Shane and Paige last? I don’t think so. Not only did the show’s longest sex scene ever end with looks of doubt on both their faces, but Kristanna Loken, the actress who plays Paige, has talked about leaving the show, because she doesn’t get along with her co-stars.
Will Tasha make it home from Iraq? Probably. To be optimistic (and naïve), the war could be over by the time the show returns in January, and for us it would be like she never left.
Will Jenny be lost at sea? I think she’s going to float into a giant blue set piece like Truman. She’s that narcissistic.
Will Max go ahead with the gender reassignment surgery? My guess is no. Although the characters on this show span the femininity scale, they are all women who like to sleep with women, and they’ve made it clear they only socialize with women who sleep with women. (The one exception being Kit, who’s the sister of a lesbian, owns a lesbian-bent club, and sleeps with women after being cheated on by a man.) If Max has the surgery, he’ll be a man who likes to sleep with women – a heterosexual, not a lesbian.
Whatever happens next, and although the fourth season was a bit of a letdown, it’s nice to have a television show that allows both homosexuals and heterosexuals experience intimately the lives of lesbian women without condescension.
